Vote Your ConsciencePrintable FlyerOur Conscience as Our GuideThe Social Ministry Team of St. Mary Parish is honored to present a three-part speaker series designed to encourage Catholics to vote their conscience with courage and confidence in the upcoming presidential election. We are all faced with the challenge of searching for the truth amidst the many controversial issues surrounding this election. The speakers will explore the relationship between Christian faith and political life from different perspectives, offering us guidance as we contemplate the issues, evaluate policy positions, assess our principles, and render this significant decision. The Prophetic Voices of the BibleWednesday, September 24th, 7:00pm Dennis Sylva, PhD will present the origins of the role of Catholics in the justice system. Dr. Sylva will discuss the Old Testament prophets, and how they were driven by the spirit of God to act on the will of God. Through their actions they influenced the nation. Learn about how these early mandates from the Bible remain prevalent today. Conscience in the Judaeo-Christian Tradition: How Do I Decide What is Right?Wednesday, October 1st, 7:00pm Fr. Charles Schramm, ThM, MSW will examine how Catholic teachings have influenced the formation of our conscience, and whether our enlightened conscience has in turn shaped the teachings of the Church. Learn how conscience affects our decisions and actions. Explore with Fr. Chuck how it is imperative that we learn to act on our conscience. Acting on our conscience demonstrates a deeper understanding of the teachings of the Church, and also leads to the revelation of truth. Forming Consciences for Faithful CitizenshipWednesday, October 8th, 7:00pm Robert Shelledy, JD, PhD and Coordinator of Social Justice Ministry for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will discuss "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States." Mr. Shelledy - along with Fr. Chuck - will share views and insights regarding the significance of the Bishops' Statement as the 2008 election rapidly approaches.
