St. Mary Catholic Faith Community

Parish Choirs, Cantors, and Instrumentalists

Music is an integral part of the Liturgy of the Church. The choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists of the parish perform the function of leading the musical participation, empowering the assembly, and providing a necessary solemnity to our parish worship.

We wish to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to each and every member of St. Mary Catholic Faith Community to participate in the music ministry as a choir member, an instrumentalist or as a member of the Assembly, lifting your voice in song to the Lord.

Choirs (except for the Resurrection Choir) are in session during the school year, September-June, with a January break.

Our Music Ministry consists of the following:

Adult Choir

This choir has a wide variety of musical talent and experience. Some members are soloists and cantors while others are group singers. New members, regardless of skill or experience, are always welcome. Adult choir sings about 9 months of the year.

Attendance at weekly rehearsals and an hour before the scheduled mass is required.

Children's Choir

The Children's Choir welcomes children from grades 3-8 from St. Mary's and public schools. Rehearsals are 5:45-6:45pm every Tuesday night. This group sings at one liturgy each month, alternating liturgy times, as well as singing for special occasions.

No audition is required. The director is the Music Teacher at St. Mary's School.

Resurrection Choir

The Resurrection choir is a group of adults who lead the assembly at funerals in sung prayer. The members represent a wide variety of musical talent and experience. Members attend funerals as their schedules permit. Many funerals are held during the week during the day.

There are no rehearsals or training required.

Cantors

Cantors are trained leaders of song who assist the assembly in their sung prayer. Cantors are scheduled on a rotating basis depending on the number of cantors and their availability. Cantors of high school age and older are welcome to participate. Individual preparation and rehearsal prior to assignments is required. Those interested must complete an audition.

Skills required: Ability to read music and follow direction, a good voice, prior voice training.

Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists help create an atmosphere of prayer through sounds rather than words. We welcome all types of instrumentalists to enhance the Assembly's prayer.

Individual availability is taken into consideration when scheduling musicians. Those interested must complete an audition, be proficient in the instrument, be able to read music and follow direction.
