MinistriesLiturgical MinistriesMinister SchedulesLiturgy is the central act of the people of God, the life of the faith community. Liturgical ministries, services to the people, are specifically formed to provide for our celebrations. Those who are involved in these services are servants of God who serve the assembled community. Liturgical ministries involve people who are prepared and trained in a specific area of service. Sharing in a ministry or organization might be a way of giving your time and talent.
Environment and ArtsEnvironment and Arts workers assist in placing and removing seasonal decorations in the church and gathering space. The Environment and Arts Coordinator designs the décor for seasonal liturgies. Workers are primarily needed before and after the major liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. SacristansSacristans are the behind-the-scenes planners and caretakers that make the Liturgy run smoothly. Volunteers to this ministry make sure all is ready in the worship space for the assembly to celebrate Liturgy. This involves interacting with the presider and other liturgical ministers by preparing books, gifts, holy water, incense, etc. This is a weekly commitment of two hours per mass served. Eucharistic MinistersMinisters of communion help to distribute the Eucharist during the liturgies. This valuable service to the faith community reminds us of the words of St. Paul: "You are the Body of Christ". Training is provided. LectorsThe lector proclaims God's word to the people. Effectiveness depends on the reader's conviction, preparation and delivery. Lectors read at weekend, Holy Day and other liturgical celebrations. Time commitment is generally one liturgy every 2 months, plus a few hours of preparation in the preceding week. Training is provided by the church. Hospitality MinistersThe women and men who greet the people as they enter the Church are the hospitality ministers. They are there to welcome and assist the people in orderly movement before, during, and after the Liturgies. They are also prepared to assist with directions and emergency situations. Lighting TechniciansThe lighting technician assists at special liturgies and prayer services when lighting plays an integral role. They raise or lower the lights at noted times during Evening Prayer services in Advent and Lent. No special skills are needed, training is provided. Sound Board TechniciansThe sound board technician assists at weekend and special liturgies to ensure optimal sound quality in the church. No special skills are needed, training is provided. Funeral HostsThe volunteers to this ministry are present at the visitation and funeral to welcome family and friends. They setup for the visitation and funeral mass in church. The host is present to provide hospitality and create a feeling of welcome for grieving families. Members attend funerals as their schedules permit. Many funerals are held during the week during the day. Shadow training is available. Wedding HostsWedding hosts are volunteers who are present at the wedding rehearsal and on the wedding day. They are a welcoming resource for brides, grooms, and their families and friends to help the rehearsal and wedding day go smoothly. Members serve at weddings as their schedules permit. Shadow training is available. Church CleaningA group of volunteers dusts, polishes, vacuums, and straightens up the church and gathering space weekly. The time commitment is based on availability.
